A friendly oasis amongst the hustle

The landscape that inspired many authors Life can feel non stop. It’s always work, chores, keeping fit, socialising, hustling, and somehow finding time to sleep. As a nurse who also runs her own business, I am never afraid of hard work. But it’s easy to get so absorbed in the “what’s next?” culture, feeling that I should always be doing something productive. However, is this the advice I give to others? No. I understand the importance of slowing down, taking time out in nature, being mindful and appreciating the moment. It allows for your nervous system to settle, your stress levels reduce, your mind to clear and your creativity to flow. After noticing I had gone too long in “doing” mode, feeling constantly tired from working, it was time for me to change something. Then I realised how privileged I am to live in a place so close to an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that I could escape to. This place is known as Malvern Hills. Malvern Hills, which is managed by the Malvern Hills Trust, is located in Hereford and Worcestershire and offers a 12 mile ridge line that rises above the surrounding flatlands. It has a unique geology and history as the area was once the home of ancient Iron Hill Forts, such as my favourite one called British Camp. Of course the forts are no longer there however the landscape is renowned for its breath taking beauty which has inspired the works of J.R.R Tolkien and C.S Lewis. And you can see why. The rolling hills offer amazing views of luscious greenery as far as the eye can see, the smell of the grass and trees ground you, the quiet sound of nature making you feel disconnected from the chaos. There’s a reason it’s a popular destination for nature lovers and photographers, and even has a range of activities including mountain biking and horse riding across the area.
